Expanding Background Checks Is Not 'Playing Politics'

Recently the Oregonian editorial board claimed that the upcoming universal background checks bill (Senate Bill 1551) is of little consequence and that Senator Floyd Prozanski is “playing politics” and “concocting a little gun fun.”

In the op-ed below, Senator Prozanski responds. He points out that Senate Bill 1551 is a good reform that will help keep guns out of the hands of criminals and that background checks for gun sales are supported by the overwhelming majority of Oregonians.
