Senator Schumer: Necessary but not sufficient

Senator Chuck Schumer has called for improved firearm background checks by requiring background checks at gun shows and for internet sales; enacting Extreme Risk Protection Orders; and calling for a debate on assault weapons on the Senate floor. (Really?? Dead high school students throughout the country and he wants a “debate”???)

While these steps are necessary, they are not sufficient. Congress must also require background checks for all private sales; increase standards of gun ownership; enhance the accountability of federally licensed firearms dealers; and mandate improved safety standards for guns and guns ownership (guns must have chamber-loaded indicators and all gun owners must be thoroughly trained).
