Idaho's Governor Signs Bill To Allow Guns on Campuses

By Penny Okamoto, Executive Director of Ceasefire Oregon

Governor C.L. “Butch” Otter of Idaho signed into law a measure to allowed concealed guns to be carried on the state’s public-college campuses. The new law takes effect in July and will allow retired law-enforcement officers and individuals who hold concealed-weapons permits to carry guns on campuses, except in dormitories and certain other venues.

Allowing guns on campuses creates a greater risk for crime, homicide, and suicide. The presidents of Idaho’s eight colleges and universities all opposed this legislation.
