H.R.282 —  SAFER Now Act (Summary not yet available but this is the SAFER Now Act from 2018: Prohibit gun sales before the completion of a background check, closing a loophole that allows transactions to go forward if a background check takes longer than three days.

  • Ban assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition.
  • Authorize the use of federal grants to buy back semiautomatic weapons, taking them off the street once and for all.
  • Close the “gun show loophole,” so sales at gun shows are subject to background checks and treated like other firearm transactions.
  • Make firearm trafficking a violation of federal criminal law.
  • Keep guns out of the hands of stalkers and domestic abusers.
