Washington State Governor Signs Domestic Violence Gun Law

By Penny Okamoto, Executive Director of Ceasefire Oregon

Washington State Governor Jay Inslee just signed a bill to reduce gun violence. The bill allows a judge to to require someone with a history of domestic violence abuse to surrender his or her guns if the abuser is under a no-contact or permanent restraining order. The bill allows the judge to make the final decision about surrendering the guns and the abuser has a chance to contest the order.

Domestic violence survivors have supported similar bills in Washington in the past and are pleased that their efforts have helped to pass this bill.
