These States Are Poised to Allow Concealed Carry of Guns Without A Permit

By Penny Okamoto, Executive Director of Ceasefire Oregon

In the wake of the 2014 elections, several states are considering allowing people to carry concealed guns without a permit. Currently, most states require applicants to pass a background check, and some require applicants to to take a gun safety class.

About eighteen states are debating permitless carry laws this year. They include New Hampshire, West Virginia, Maine, Kansas, and Colorado.

Allowing people to carry concealed guns without a permit is a very bad idea. Training requirements and background checks are very important for gun safety, and reduce the likelihood that shootings will happen.
