Oregon Supreme Court to Review Measure 114

By Penny Okamoto, Ceasefire Oregon Action Fund

A personal note from Penny Okamoto, Ceasefire Oregon board member, about the Oregon Supreme Court decision to review Measure 114:

The Oregon Supreme Court will review Measure 114 this November, three years after Oregonians passed the measure into law and just three months after the Oregon Appellate Court ruled Measure 114 to be constitutional.

We have hope that the Oregon Supreme Court took the case of Measure 114 because they consider the issue too important to not weigh in on.

Whatever the outcome, we are doubling down on our work. We are not going away and we are not giving up.

Our work takes us down a long, hard road but Ceasefire Oregon has been around for 25 years and we are familiar with its path. But those who need a break should–and deserve to– take one. We all need to devote our time to our loved ones and to care for ourselves.

But I, personally, am in a place now where I can jump up to grab that arc of history and bend its trajectory toward justice as much as I possibly can.

I will keep my hope burning, my wits sharp, and my heart excited for justice. I know you will, too.

Change like this takes the effort of many people, everyone doing what they can. On behalf of Ceasefire Oregon, I thank all of you and look forward to continuing our work.

Onward to justice and peace.

Penny
